January 2008 Archives
My parents ended up visiting us around 7:30 on the day Barrett was born. We ended up spending one more night in the hospital before coming home. Barrett slept pretty much the whole time in the hospital. Saturday afternoon he was a bit more alert, but still not crying. He did cry though when Kellie tried to play dress up (notice the picture with him in a white gown and oversized hat. The clothes we brought for him to wear home and take his picture in are WAY too big!). Since none of the clothes we brought fit, he had to wear the onsies the hospital provided.
We left the hospital Saturday night and my folks came over for dinner. They brought pizza and we all just hung out and passed around Barrett. It was here that my mom gave us the blanket she has toiled over since Thanksgiving - we love it! Once everyone left, Kellie fed boy one last time before putting him down for bed (he did perfect the night before and we had hoped for more or less the same...instead we were baptized by fire). He ate for ~40 minutes, which had been the longest feeding so far, but when we put him to bed he still acted hungry. He was making faces, gnawing at his blanket, & crying. We checked his diaper, took a blanket off him in case he was too warm, and even tried to feed him some more. Nothing seemed to work. We finally gave him a pacifier, which Kellie wasn't thrilled about. So for his first night home, he didn't really sleep that well. In the end, we think his tylenol from the circumcision was wearing off and he was feeling some discomfort. Anyway, since Barrett was having trouble sleeping so did we! We (ME!) kept having to wake up and console him or reinsert the pacifier. Finally, at about 7
0am Kellie brought him to bed to nurse and they both fell asleep before it was all over. We all got about an hour and a half to two hours at that point with no disruptions and it was nice. Kellie doesn't want to start bad habits but it was nice. We are hoping tonight will be a little better and he will sleep from feeding to feeding. We tried to have some interactive time after his feedings during the day today in hopes that he will be a bit sleepier tonight. We'll keep you all updated. Enjoy the pics!

Barrett Scott with mom and dad
We have resisted going over there today to hold and lovingly gaze upon his sweet, adorable face. It has not been easy! Kellie and Stephen were up with Baby Barrett every hour to hour and a half last night. He must have felt that he was all alone in that big crib in that big bedroom. Stephen introduced him to the pacifier at some point in the middle of the night. Barrett kept it in for an hour and cried when it fell out. Stephen put it back in and they all slept for another hour. Kellie and Stephen dozed most of the day today when Barrett slept. He is really a very beautiful baby and we are slightly (?) FREAKED out that we are old enough to be GRANDPARENTS!

Someone coming, going, living in our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all. This is the "quidam" that Cirque du Soleil is celebrating."
Quidam is my favorite Cirque du Soleil production mainly because of Audrey Brisson-Jutrás, the 11yr old girl who plays Zoé. Her stage presence is overwhelming for someone so young, don't you think? The featured clip is my favorite scene. Surely wish I could have seen this production. Enjoy.

Here are some photos of the fun we've had with the snow this past Christmas. Dan's brother and family were in town from CA. Though they live near the mountains and snow isn't foreign to them, they don't get to play in the snow often. The girls had a bunch of friends over for a sliding party and had a blast. It was fun to watch Kyoko as she experienced her first snowmobile ride and first time sliding. The one picture of Nicole and her cousin Amber absolutely cracked me up! They came in to get scarves ‘cause they were cold and when they came in, Nicole's glasses fogged up. It looks like some kind of joke glasses. Ashley was home from college for 3 weeks and it was nice to have her around. Now its back to school for everyone. Nicole and Kyoko went back to school yesterday; Ashley goes back this weekend. Back to the regular routine, (whatever that is).
