Georgia College & State University's 124th Commencement

Brianne graduated from the school of education at 9:00 this morning. The ceremony for the 1074 graduates was on the lawn between college buildings. The weather held out. It was slightly overcast. The sun peeped out from time to time and although it was more humid there than it is in Lawrenceville, a light breeze wafted through the crowd occasionally making it momentarily pleasant for those that were hot. Not often enough for most people, but I would have been happy if I had had on a sweatshirt because it was a little cool for me. Brianne was very warm beneath her cap and gown and couldn't wait to remove them.

After the ceremony we went back to Brianne's house and loaded up a carful of her stuff. We took home a carful last Friday when we were there for her Showcase presentation and Awards Ceremony. Scott is going back with her on Monday to get the rest in a U-haul trailer. Her bedroom here is already covered from one end to the other with stuff so I don't know where any more is going to go. She said that she and her roommates already took four boxes of discards to Goodwill.

After that, we drove to the town of Madison to have lunch. We figured that all the places in Milledgeville would have long waits. Madison is around a 45 minute drive back toward our house. We didn't count on the people celebrating graduations from UGA going to Madison, but it appeared that there were many at this restaurant who had just graduated from there. We waited around 30 minutes to get a table which wasn't too bad but the kitchen must have been having trouble keeping up with the crowds because it was slow and all of our food didn't come out at the same time. We weren't in a hurry so that was okay.

Brianne stayed in Milledgeville to attend parties but we came on home, picked up Patrick and went right to church tonight since we were already dressed. Patrick has a lifeguarding inservice tomorrow morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. so it was going to be a hardship to get from that to 10:30 mass in the morning with him changing into church clothes in the car! Now maybe Scott can take me out to a Mother's Day breakfast while Patrick's at the inservice!

I've included a picture of Brianne and her 3 roommates. They've been friends since high school and have lived in a house together for the past 3 years. Erin is going to be a 4th grade teacher in Augusta, Leah is going to Georgia State for graduate school in school psychology and Kristin will graduate with a degree in Sociology next May. There is also a picture of Brianne trying on the pearls we gave her as a graduation present. They are very beautiful and she loved them!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers who read this!

Congratulations, Brianne.

I loved reading this. I wish I could have been there. It sounded like a wonderful day. I'm so glad the pearls suited her. I thought they were gorgeous. Everyone looked beautiful. Happy Mother's Day to you. I loved my gift and thank you for sending it.

Your mother and I are very, very proud of you Baby Girl...I love you so much I don't hardly know what to do...Dad

Congratulations Brianne! Great pictures. I got pearls for my graduation too. I wore then a few weeks later at my wedding. Don't you feel free now?

Congratulations Brianne! If teaching doesn't work out remember...you can always work at the restaurant again.

Congratulations Brianne! What a load off!! Now on to more exciting things- your first paycheck in the fall. I remember staring at my paycheck when I first got it and thinking "I'm rich!!" I won't divulge my meager salary here but let's just say that it was 1996 and LA was the lowest paying state in education. I think you could probably make as much flipping burgers at McD's now.

Woo hoo! Congratulations, Brianne. The pearls are beautiful. I wonder if Sue got her special lunch...

Brianne,

Congratulations Brianne - isn't graduating a wonderful feeling!!!!!! I thought about you Saturday and was wishing I was there to share your special day with you. Sorry, I couldn't make the trip. Hope to see you soon.
