Happy Father's Day

Father's Day was sort of a non-event at our house. There were gifts, of course, but not the frenzy (am I remembering this correctly?) of Mother's Day. I always liked to buy Daddy clothing and since it was summer, shorts and shirt were what appealed to me. Back in the day, he liked really colorful sports/play clothes so I bought him a pretty pair of plaid shorts (to-the-knee shorts) and a matching coral-colored shirt. The first time he wore it, we were on a business and pleasure trip to Baton Rouge. When we got out of the car, it started to drizzle and we got a little wet. Not soaked. Now here's my story: on the return, there was a really bad odor in the car. After a few miles, he muttered to me, "Did you shower this morning?" and I indignantly said, "YES I DID THANKS FOR ASKING!"

Well, when we got home and he changed his fancy clothes, he started to laugh. The rain had released something in his new shirt and he was the offender. He laughed. I was still smarting so I only smiled.

I had a shirt that did that, too. It was a black t-shirt with a big, rubbery logo on the front. If the logo got wet, it smelled really, really bad. I wore that shirt 10-12 times before I connected those dots. That shirt was shredded and used to tie up tomato plants.

Happy Father's Day, Dad.
