CrabAppleLane female rufous hummingbird - October 27, 2008

Heard the chatter as soon as I got home. It's the same hummingbird that's been hanging around since yesterday. I had about an hour's worth of daylight but I was going to have to use the flash because the feeder is on the eastern side of the house and the sun was on the western side. It' supposed to be cold tonight and I hope this little girl will be OK. She'll probably move on tomorrow. I believe Kem was right yesterday. I think she's a rufous hummingbird and she's gorgeous.

After vacillating for the better part of the morning and after scoring some Trans-Siberian Orchestra tickets for the December 18 show, Patsy and I decided to pay our respects to our parents today. Got a late start, had a late, great lunch at Deanie's in Bucktown, stopped by Dad's for the 5th anniversary, then headed to Patsy's parents site in Metairie (I had never been there), and then back to Covington to catch the library before they closed.

Dad - It's been five years

The in-laws - October 25, 2008 - Patsy's parents died a couple of months apart in 1962. I never met them. There was a freshly-dug grave next to them and some mud had gotten on the markers.

1952 Pep fest. Ate at Anna's.
1957 Went to Blue Room to celebrate 2nd anniversary.
Saw Kirby Stone Four.
1958 Janice Claire Bye, 7 lb. 12 oz. Sue's 1st polio shot.
Weighs 14 lbs. 4 oz., a little over six months.
1959 Left Minneapolis 7:30 a.m. Arrived Chicago 3:00 p.m.
Left at 5:00 p.m. Sue was sick. Arrived N.O. 9:30 a.m.
1960 Nice anniversary dinner at House of Lee. Sam gave me
pink breadbox and oven thermometer.
1985 Bought freezer/refrigerator at Campo's. $1299.
1987 Sue fixed chicken Dijon for 32nd anniversary. Sam out
of town.
1988 David bought car from Devron Thibodaux for $500.
1989 Received tickets to Fiddler on the Roof from children for
34th anniversary.
1990 35th anniversary. Received white, green, purple jacket.

Bogue Falaya Wayside Park - October 17, 2008

Patsy and I eat lunch here in the park weekdays now that the weather is nice. She didn't work yesterday so I went by myself with a McDonald's drive-through lunch ... and the camera. Maybe some of the nearby family members could join us one day. During the week, you almost have the place to yourself. Quite lovely. I love rye grass.
