Duncan and Casey - October 1994
Duncan is the Shetland Sheepdog (
Or Sheltie, if you prefer) in this picture. He is a fairly spry 12½ year old pup who thinks he's in charge. He has his younger (
10½) and much larger brother,
Nikki, in line. He also insists on asserting his authority over Casey, the kitten. Casey is about a year old here and is a blur to our two dogs. They are no match for her. She can can do anything they can do, only much faster. She can also jump to the moon and is totally insane. She lives to torment them. She torments Nikki by ignoring him and Duncan by laying traps like the one above for him. She'd swat him and he'd reprimand her with a couple of barks and a snarl. I think she just loved the reaction. Duncan has moved on but Casey (
15 now) is still with us and has a younger feline brother who lives to torment her.
These picture blogs are really great. The Casey-Duncan one is cute as can be and so is the Nikki-horses one. He was a beautiful boy, with a wonderful thick white coat. Did he suffer in the summertime, do you think? Can't wait for tomorrow to see what's next. You must be enjoying going through that big box of pictures!
Nikki had hot spots from fleas that the heat and the coat exacerbated. We would get him shaved sometimes but only to make those areas more treatable. He preferred winter but summer didn't bother him that much.
When Nikki rolled over on his back, he was giving in but he was also playing while he was defending himself. When Casey rolled over on her back, she was playing, too, but she was on offense. I don't think Duncan ever caught on to that. She never, ever hurt him. Her claws were never extended but she ALWAYS got the best of him. She might have hurt his feelings, though, and she was never impressed with his authority.
Wow Robbie, love this loquacious side of you! I have enjoyed reading all of these entries very much. The owners of the nursery that I worked for years ago were DeLaSalle alumni. They tell a different story about punishments. One of the Brothers would punch you in the face or head while you sat in your seat if you sassed or said something stupid. They swore that was truth.
Sister Catherine was blessedly gone by the time I got to the upper classes, thank goodness! I would never have recognized Mrs. Ruiz. She was about 3 times that size last I remember. Doots, was Mrs. Ruiz still teaching when you were there?
Rob, your Jr. year pictures I would say look just like Jacob today. I think he looks just like you. I believe Jude looks like Christina, so yeah he probably favors you a bit.
Is that Mrs Rosemary Ruiz? No way. I can't imagine it.
Yes, that is Mrs. Ruiz and yes, she was there when we were there. That picture came from one of my classmates who had it posted on facebook. Mrs. Ruiz was my sister's 3rd grade homeroom teacher, but she taught us both. I think my friend said she took this picture when we were in 4th or 5th grade (1983-84) to get a picture of Mrs. Ruiz who was her favorite teacher, not Sister Catherine. We hadn't yet had Sister Catherine at the time.
