Joey has family that has land in Moreauville, LA. The cousin that owns that land has made a wildlife preserve of sorts with all kinds of exotic animals. They also have hunting land where Joey killed his buck this year. After going there last December for the first time, he insisted that we drive the 3 hours so the boys could go and see the animals. They got to pet and feed some deer. We also saw some kangaroos, peacocks, giraffes, camels, monkeys, and emus. But the highlight of the trip was when Samuel caught a huge fish. He was so excited to fish with Joey. Luke just ran around and I just sat and watched as Samuel would make cast after cast. He never tired of it. He was standing right next to Joey when Joey noticed there was a big fish swimming right by the bank. Right at the same time Samuel made a noise and then started to let go of the fishing pole. Joey grabbed it and helped him hold it while he reeled it in. It put up a good fight but Samuel got him in. The fish is called a "choupique"- which is actually the Cajun name for it. They threw it back in, but it is an edible fish. Samuel threw a fit when it was time to go. Even Joey, who will waste many hours fishing, was ready to go. I don't know how he did it, but he turned my boy into an avid fisherman and he's only 4 years old!

Samuel, Luke, and Joey

Great job, Samuel. I always thought it was spelled "shoepick".
Angela,
Great pictures! I would have liked to get close to the Kangaroo. What fun!
I checked out the time you and Robbie posted. What are y'all...teenagers or something?
Love these pictures, especially the one of Samuel with his arm around Luke's neck!!
These are great pictures. I cannot believe the size of that fish! I'm surprised that Joey didn't consider it a "wall hanger" and have it mounted to put in Samuel's room.
Lizzy, that was Robbie who is the teenager. I sent him the entry and pics and he posted it at that time- I was in my ni-ni bed at that time!
Robbie, choupique is the Cajun spelling for it. If you google it, the technical name is bowfin and there are many nicknames including shoepick.
Sue, I too am surprised that Joey didn't mention mounting it. I think he only wants to mount a bass or a trout. He was quite happy to throw this one back- he thinks it's "prehistoric" looking. He definitely wants to frame the picture for his room.
Oh, my gosh, what great pictures. I agree with Christina, the one w/ Samuel's arm around Luke's neck is precious. I have a few of Ashley and Nicole in a similar pose. Cute, cute boys.(and Joey too) Memories in the making!
Darling pictures. I think the captions of the top picture should read "Samuel, Luke, and Joeys" - plural. Who keeps kangaroos as pets?
Those are great pictures. Love the surrounding scenery in the picture of Joey, Samuel and their catch.
Michael was impressed with Samuel's concentration and casting when boys were fishing in Elizabeth's pond at Easter.
Angela -- You need to make a poster-sized wall hanging of Samuel fishing by himself. The surrounding scenery is beautiful and the little boy enjoying the solitude with nobody telling him what to do or how to do it is awesome. All the other pictures were good too, of course, especially of the huge fish caught, but this one picture is way ahead of the others. Good subject and excellent photography!
I believe it was a Saturday night, Grandma.
