Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince yesterday afternoon. Matinee tickets were $7/ea + $3 service charge for online purchase. We get the Number 2 concession special, which is a bucket of popcorn and two large drinks. With tax, that was $16+. A matinee for two with concessions used to be about $10. We're out $33 before we sit down these days. Enough of that. The first movie wasn't as good as its book counterpart. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th movies were actually better than their books in my opinion. Spoiler info below the jump. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is next, will be in two parts, and will have to be unbelievable to live up to the expectations it has.

Unless you don't mind reading the spoiler stuff, I recommend you wait until you see the movie to comment or read the continuation and the comments, if any.

Half-Blood Prince, the 6th movie, was technically flawless but didn't build towards the next installment nearly as well as its book. The film makers glossed over the potion book Harry had, didn't build up any suspense over who the Half-Blood Prince was, and really gave short shrift to the note found in the Horcrux and even shorter shrift to Dumbledore's burnt hand. It figured to be difficult to build any suspense over who the Half-Blood Prince was because I would think that most of the moviegoers already knew. I still think they could have done better in that area or at least devote a little more film time to it. I'm not disappointed because it did move the story along but I think the book was better this time.

I agree the book was much better, though I still enjoyed the movie...something about beloved characters and stories coming to life! I was annoyed that the movie added things that weren't in the book, while excluding so much info that was in the book. I re-read the 6th book before the movie came out and then for fun re-read the 7th one. I was very primed for seeing my favorite story on film and sorry I left a little disappointed.

We saw the movie a couple weeks ago. It was ok. None of us (especially Ashley and Nicole)thought it was that good; slow moving, and certainly not as good as the books. Still fun to see. The girls are looking forward to the next movie.
