Pumpkin Cookies

It has been a tradition in our family (ever since Stephen was 2 years old) to make pumpkin cookies every fall. My mom started making them when she was working with Karen Okamato at the psychiatric hospital on the children's unit in Denver. They used to make the cookies and let the kids decorate them. It has fallen upon myself and my mother in the recent years to make them(Little Red Hen), while everyone else in the house just likes to enjoy the finished product! They are decorated with mini chocolate chips and Patrick likes to make ghoulish faces with the chocolate bits.

Barrett ate his first pumpkin cookie last weekend, after a dinner of Creole Daube. He thoroughly enjoyed it, and was going around with his mouth open like a little bird while everyone else ate theirs! Mom sent some to Bunk since he was missing out. And she has passed on the recipe to Angela and she was making her first batch this year. They are wonderful and something we look forward to every fall!!

Samuel's new room

Last month we moved Samuel into the "bunk bed" room. Joey has been wanting to decorate Samuel's room with a hunting theme since the day he was born. I have held him off until now. I finally gave in and we got the camo bedding and added other little "hunting" attributes to the room. Samuel absolutely loves his room! We asked Candice to come back and paint a mural for his room (she painted our monkeys in the nursery). The mural came out beautiful!! We love it. She spent all day with Samuel by her side giving her directives about what he wanted in his room. She was so good with him! Joey had bought some stamps of animal tracks to put on the wall and my idea was to put our own little critters' tracks on the wall too. I think it's adorable and the whole room came out better than I could have ever imagined for a hunting room. Savannah is now in the nursery and Luke is in Samuel's old room which is pirate themed. After Luke saw the new mural he skipped down the hallway singing, "Samuel has a tree and Savannah has a tree, but not meeee..." I saw the writing on the wall of my poor little middle child's psyche and decided to ask Candice to come back to paint a tree or something for Luke. She has graciously agreed to come back one day next week. We are so grateful!!!

Autumns' fight against the snow - October 12, 2009

We have more snow today (it snowed on Saturday too) and it's really pretty even if it's really early. After the weird weather of the past few months this shouldn't surprise any of us. Good thing Aunt Ginnie got out of town before the snow came.

Another Wedding

Another of Joey's brothers got married this weekend. The last of the Hunter boys, Scott, married his girlfriend of 15 1/2 years, Diana. Samuel and Luke were both in the wedding and looked adorable again in their tuxes. Luke is Scotty's godchild so he served as ring bearer and Samuel served as a "Duke." Diana's original plan was to have Samuel hold her train while she walked but then thought that holding the Bible down the aisle would be better. Luke walked with a very cute little flower girl who is Diana's godchild. I don't have any pictures from the ceremony because when I went to take them my camera yelled at me, "No memory card, you idiot!!" My sister very graciously stopped off between the wedding and reception to pick one up for me so the only pictures I have are from the reception. It was a beautiful wedding and the children were exceptionally well behaved. We had arranged with David Clayton to come to the reception hall to pick up the boys for us but Joey wanted them to stay because they were doing so well so we called him off. Luke petered out and crashed- he would not take a nap that day! But Samuel did take a nap and lasted until we got in the car to go home around 1a.m.
