Sue and I are the two little ones in the 1959 video. We're in the early part of the 1960 video, too. The 1959 video was shot at Grandma and Grandpa Tompkins' house in Minneapolis. The early part of the 1960 video was shot in Kenner and New Orleans, LA. Sue and I were playing in our new backyard in Kenner. Mom and Grandma are watching us. Those are handmade kites Dad and Grandpa are trying to get off the ground. Those were fantastic kites. There must have been some kind of deal made for me to let Sue play with my fire truck, though. The later scenes are from the first communions of cousins, Nancy and Beth. They were shot in Minneapolis. There are some people in the 1960 video I don't recognize.
Patsy and I took a trip to the Irish Channel in New Orleans today. Took that second photo with my phone. Parasol's is a vanishing, nearly extinct species: The neighborhood tavern. Slowly, but surely, they're being zoned out of existence. I had been to Parasol's a few times but I had never eaten there. It doesn't look like much but the place is the center of the New Orleans universe on St Patrick's Day. The few times I had been down there was for that celebration. They're known for their roast beef in addition to their green beer on St Patrick's Day so that's what we were there for today. Their reputation is well-deserved. It's a top notch roast beef po-boy. Patsy hardly picked at it at all. Highly recommended.
Was a little disappointed in the neighborhood, though. Broken glass and trash strewn along the streets and sidewalks. Wasn't like that last time I was down there.
