Sign of spring - February 24, 2008

Mediocre at best! The caramel rolls couldn't even compare to my mom's, but at least I can say I tried. One pan was fairly decent, the other was overdone. In my defense.....I think they would have been better had I not tried the overnight version. Thankfully, there were plenty of other treats there so no one went hungry. I brought m&m and chocolate chip cookies to distract my siblings just in case the rolls didn't work. I didn't want a scuffle on Easter!
I'm sticking to the cookies!!! Happy spring! It will be 70 here on Wednesday. Yahoo!
Sam’s E-Z Spaghetti Sauce
2 packs McCormack’s Italian Spaghetti Sauce w/Mushrooms (French sauce is also good)
1 15oz can Hunt’s Italian Chunky tomato sauce
1 6oz can Contadina tomato paste
2 teaspoons oleo margarine
1 clove garlic
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon sugar (Carrot may be substituted to remove bitter taste from tomato paste)
A sprinkle of thyme leaves
Follow directions on spaghetti sauce mix. Add oleo, garlic, bay leaf, thyme, and sugar/carrot to tomato sauce and tomato paste while they are heating to boil. Add mix when liquids come to a boil. Dad usually added about 2 more cups of water to liquids than the packages called for.
Speaking of mirlitons, our local TV personality was doing this with them this morning as I was getting ready for work.
How were the mirlitons, Sue?

First, go in your backyard and pick four good sized mirlitons. Grab the other ingredients at the store. If you don't have any mirlitons in your backyard, you'll have to just buy them.
