I know you all have been waiting. The annual CrabAppleLane Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet for 2012.
Disclaimer of all warranties, expressed or implied: It is a ZIP file. I think any version of ZIP will open it but I'm not sure. Inside of the ZIP file is a Microsoft Excel file. I think Versions 3, 7, and 10 will open it but I'm not sure. I use Excel 2010 but the original source file is a Excel 2003 file. Everything works and looks fine on my computer. Your mileage may vary. It should print in landscape mode on one sheet of paper.
I list all 32 teams with their projected starters at all positions. I do not list placekickers, defenses, or special teams. Our league combines defenses and special teams. I grab one of each of those for the bare minimum to fill out my roster at the end of our auction. If your league holds a draft rather than an auction, you should know that I used to do the same thing when we had a draft. I would select a D/ST and a PK with my last two picks based on who was still available. PKs and D/STs are so unreliable and unpredictable that I just see no point in spending extra for them. I concentrate on position players.
Our auction is one week from today. I will make adjustments as information becomes available to me. You should, too. Some of the starters I list are very shaky in their positions because they are still battling for their jobs. For instance, I list Kevin Kolb, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Flynn, and Jake Locker as starting QBs because I think they will all eventually win their job. I think you'd probably be safe taking Flynn as a backup for your team but I'm not touching any of the others at auction.
All of the projections I've listed are my own. They are based on what I'm reading and what I've seen in games. For instance, Justin Blackmon was very impressive for the Jaguars Friday night against the Saints. I don't know what kind of passing game the Jags will have with Blaine Gabbert but Blackmon is definitely going to have a big role. He catches the ball with his hands out away from his body. Love receivers who do that.
For what it's worth, I haven't won a championship since 2002 and my teams are consistently inconsistent. I tend to make the playoffs every other year. I had an awful auction last season. Just awful.
