We watched Just Like Heaven yesterday afternoon. Patsy has been trying to get me to watch this since she recorded it several months ago. She's seen it a few times. I like light romantic comedies (AKA chick flicks) about as much as any guy. I don’t mind a little syrupy goo but I have a rather low threshold for it. This one is cute in all of the predictable ways. The two stars, Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo, are about as likable as you could ask for. As is usually the case in these movies, the comic relief from two of the other characters are the best parts. In this one, they were played by John Heder (Best known for Napoleon Dynamite) and Donal Logue. They're not on the screen long enough to suit me. Totally predictable and very syrupy but not a bad way to kill a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Free agency in the NFL started Friday night. So far, the Saints are slow out of the gate but one of their division opponents, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, isn't. Two of their moves this weekend mystify me. First, they signed their 2006 opening day starting QB, Chris Simms, to a lucrative 2yr contract extension a few months ago. Yesterday, they traded for Jake Plummer and signed Jeff Garcia. They also have Bruce Gradkowski and Tim Rattay. Gradkowski started 11 games for them as a rookie last year and played pretty good in some of them. This is not a healthy environment for QBs. So much of a quarterback's game is about the two-way confidence between the quarterback and his coaches and team. My guess is Garcia, the only name mentioned that has any confidence, will start the season, Plummer will retire, Rattay will be released, Simms and Gradkowski will be backups. Oh, and the Bucs finish at or near the bottom again.

Robin Hood is a new BBC America series. The premiere was last night but I suspect you can see it again before next week's episode if you're interested. I love the Robin Hood legend and have since I was a kid. Don't know how long they can sustain the series but I decided to give it a TiVo season pass and I'll just have to find out. The premiere was very good.

March 4 and still no hummingbirds at CrabAppleLane although I did have a very camera-shy Rufous hanging out here for about a month over the winter. Hope he's OK. Making some fresh nectar as I type. The regulars will be here by next weekend. They prefer daylight savings time.

A rare picture from CrabAppleLane on this gorgeous Sunday morning.

Casey & Crispin - March 3, 2007

These are our indoor cats, Casey (Left, 13) and Crispin (Right, 10). They’re hardly ever this close to each other long enough for a picture. They're not all that big on the togetherness thing. In fact, she hissed at him just before this was taken. He’s got the medicine smell about him these days. Just a guess but it’s probably because we administer it to him twice a day. The medicine smell is similar to the vet smell and she doesn’t like it. He used to go out of his way to annoy her before we started giving him medicine. Now, he’s doubly annoying to her. The life of a princess ...

Hi Rob. Thanks for your comments on my blog. It's always nice to hear from a real New Orleanser. (Is that a word?) I just wanted to let you know I have had a real po'boy. Been to the Big Easy several times. The last time was particularly interesting.

The kitties are so cute!

Great picture. They are really beautiful cats. How is Crispin doing with the medicine? Did you say it was leukemia or lymphoma? Or something else? If the little hummingbird could find food, he'll probably be okay. We haven't had much cold weather. They're really hardy -- I'll never forget the two that fed throughout the entire Katrina experience and then afterwards, the whole flock of them that materialized!

Oh the kitties are beautiful. I'm partial to orange kitties.

I'll have to look that up at your place, Postmodern Sass.

Thanks, Marie.

Crispin has Hyperthyroidism, Mom. He seems to be doing OK with it now. Unfortunately, the healthier he gets, the more difficult it is to administer the medicine. He's very strong. It takes both of us to do it.

Thanks, Andrea.

Your cats look like a right pair of characters!

I'll put Just like Heaven on my list to see. I do like Reece Witherspoon. She's totally stepped into Julia Robert's shoes - in fact I like her better than Julia.

Rob said:

I like Reese, too, Fi. I've never thought of her as Julia's successor. I can't imagine either of them in each other's more famous roles.
