Unexpected

It was like a blast from the past. Denice dropped in and commented here. I remember the last time I saw her at a bar called Kaleb's in Fat City. I’m guessing it was 25 years ago. Maybe more. I was still a newlywed because I remember her asking me how the “wife life” was. I don’t know why that stuck in my mind but it did. Back in my foosball playing days in the mid and late 70s, Denice and I were mixed doubles partners. We won a lot of tournaments locally and played in the 1976 Nationals, losing in the first round to the eventual champion. We were an unusual team. Most, almost all, mixed doubles teams had the guy playing forward and the girl playing goalie. We were the opposite. In that same 1976 Nationals, Denice and her partner, Tess, won the Women’s Doubles Event. Denice was a great player, probably still is, and is a good friend. She seems to have done well in life if her website is any indication and I’m happy for her. It was great hearing from you, Denice.

My long, daily commute to New Orleans ended yesterday. Starting Monday, it has been replaced by a much shorter daily commute to Covington. Yes, it's a new job. Everyone I've talked to has been supportive and it is greatly appreciated. I'll miss the people and semi-regular City Park lunches but I won't miss the twin span or The Causeway or the two hours per day of rush hour traffic.
