A CrabAppleLane Sunday - January 20, 2008

This link was sent to me the other day by Pitcherlady. It sums up what people really should be thinking about the iPhone craze but serves a larger purpose if you ask me. What David Lynch says in that marvelous and very funny video clip also goes for people who like to download pirated, illegal, usually poorly recorded movies, that are currently in theaters, to watch them on their 15" computer monitors or their laptop. I just don’t understand it. Maybe they think they can fray the expense of having an iPhone by saving on theater expenses? As for downloading and watching a movie recorded on someone’s cell phone or digicam, that has ridiculously poor audio/video quality, I simply cannot make any sense of that.

It says here that the home teams will win both NFL Championship games today and we have a Packers/Patriots rematch in the Super Bowl. I think the Giants will make a better game of their matchup with the Pack than the Chargers will with their matchup with the Pats.

Two from the CrabAppleLane front yard. I came across this UFO (I think it's an Eastern Phoebe but I am not sure) below as it seemed to be sleeping. Came to life as I was focusing, posed for one photo, flew off, and came back to pose for another. The images below were taken about 10 minutes apart.

Quote of the Day
If predictions hold, this could be the second-coldest game ever at Lambeau Field, behind the famous Ice Bowl of 1967, when the temperature was 13 below zero at kickoff. And that was a day game.

I agree. Both are wonderful pictures, but especially the second one. You could work for the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Section -- enticing people to come here and see really blue, very blue, skies. You've heard of the Big Sky of Montana, haven't you? You could call yours the Blue Sky of Louisiana. Unless you have some sort of special camera or film that adds a touch of blue here and there?? Uh. Oh.

*ROFL @ the Lynch link.* He has a point.
I had a look through my Audubon bird book for your UFO & unfortunately nothing really seems to match there. I'll let you know if I stumble upon any answers. Intriguing!

My wonderful husband brought me home the Smithsonian "Birds of North America" tome last night. There I discovered the gray-crowned yellowthroat. Although these birds are rare in the US & more typically found in Southern TX, we're not terribly far from there. This is the closest thing I've been able to find to your pictures. Have a look here & let me know what you think; http://www.texasbirds.org/tbrc/gcyel.htm

Hard to tell, Lana. It looked bigger in real life than it does on that link. This bird is about the size of a titmouse and its tail was always down. I can't identify it to my satisfaction yet but I'm sill looking as time permits. :)

I'm stumped. The bird doesn't seem dark enough for a phoebe, which, when I see them, are very dark gray. There's too much reddish-brown on this bird. I was thinking some sort of thrush but I would expect breast spots. There are a couple of faint wing-bars and maybe an eyering, which suggests an empidonax flycatcher but the head shape seems wrong. How big was it? Interesting shots.

It's a little smaller than a bluebird, Kem. I said titmouse earlier but that's a different body type and not of much use. After it woke up and came to life, it was very active, very chirpy, very cheery. Quite delightful. Hope it stays around.
