I don't think it's any surprise that Tiger Woods is easily the highest paid athlete in the world. Deservedly so. He owns his sport. Banked twice as much as his nearest rival.
I used to do something called the ZDTV Investment Challenge online a few years ago. They gave you an imaginary amount of money and you competed with other contestants to make the most of it. It used current stock prices. It was fun for a time but I lost interest. Went to the site today and someone else has taken over their domain. Looks like a site that spammers would send you to. I won't be linking to it.

A guy like DeLamielleure says the things he said about me; you think I'm going to invite him to dinner? No. I'm going to break his ... damn neck.

About today's QOTD: Every time I see a story about Queen Elizabeth, I'm reminded of some comic, whose name I've long forgotten, who used to do a routine that went something like, "Why does the Queen carry a bag? What does she need? Keys to the palace?".
Quote of the Day
The queen wore the Queen Mary tiara, given to her by her grandmother; a diamond necklace known as the Festoon; diamond earrings and other diamond accessories, with her creamy white gown featuring a beaded bodice, chiffon skirt and the blue Order of the Garter sash. She wore white gloves and carried a silver handbag.

Quote from said blog: "Ever since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, many Americans have worried that another attack may soon follow. For many people, concerns about potential terrorism have grown into outright phobias, and quite a few have required psychological help just to carry on their lives with some degree of normalcy."
From Kiwifruit: Fi is somewhat incredulous at this story. So am I. Modern medicine is a wonderful thing but I think this is bucking nature a little too much. I think this could have been thought out a little more.
From Ilyka Damen: Ilyka has hit the big-time.
From Postmodern Sass: Portland, Oregon hosts TequilaCon. Who would’ve thunk? When I think of Tequila, I think of places like Alburquerque, San Diego, San Antonio, or Tijuana. I like Tequila ... so much that I steer clear of it.

New Orleans has been very, very good to the Super Bowl -- a superb good-time host, throwing memorable parties before great games. And now it's time for the NFL to return the favor.

Quote from said blog: "I have been rather successful in avoiding watching the show Heroes. I did start off watching it but my disgust got the better of me when both main female characters had "near rape experiences" as key elements to their developing powers. A writing using the "rape card" on a female character damn well better have an amazing story developed or it is just a cheap and easy way to attack a female character. Needless to say, there was no amazing storyline for the girls on Heroes."
Cool beyond words from one of my favorite sites. Don’t touch.
Why it’s in the national interest to help rebuild New Orleans. I like the article but one part of it bothered me. I wish articles like this could be written without blame or comparison. It stands on its own. The instant you add those two unnecessary elements, it gets political and then nobody sees anything else. Via TM.
City Park has been one of my favorite places to have lunch post-Katrina. It’s beautiful to me in spite of Katrina’s devastation and I usually have the place to myself on weekdays. It shouldn’t be that way. It should be filled with people on bikes and roller blades, people walking their dogs, people feeding the ducks, and kids laughing and screaming on the seesaws, swings, and monkey bars. I knew the park was short-handed and had no money but I always figured it was because of the City of New Orleans’ money woes. There are other reasons, too. It’s always a shame when bureaucracy kills anything. Communities need places like City Park in New Orleans. Communities in despair especially need them.

Kem has some nice pics of bluebirds leaving the nest. I have still not ever witnessed that at CrabAppleLane.
People write not very clever things on dirty vehicles around town. Things such as “WASH ME” and “I NEED A BATH”. I wonder how long a vehicle would have to be parked for something like these. There are 10 of them featured. Scroll through them. Amazing.

November is a month for weddings? Well, anniversaries. Two gorgeous anniversary celebrations. One in Natchez, Mississippi celebrated by my sister and her beloved, the other celebrated at The Coromandel in New Zealand by Fi and her Other Harf. OK, makes our anniversary celebration at the Burger King look a little cheap. Will have to do better in May for our 25th.
The early morning laugh. Thanks, Marie.
My not nearly as funny version.

Not pleasant: Ilyka contends with one of the features of her new abode in New Mexico.
Could have been unpleasant: 2900 gallons of gasoline on the ground from Dave of Fish Fear Me. The real reason Minnesota doesn’t have roaches, Ilyka.
Could have been pleasant: Greg from Geese Aplenty writes about something we have all thought about. Yes, you, too.
Pleasant but very hot: Satchmo Fest in New Orleans via Harmony St Charles.
Very pleasant: Kem describes Rehoboth Beach’s community project with words and pictures. I think its cool.
It appears everything is back to normal after yesterday’s disastrous crash on our host’s server. I was pretty down about it for a time. I don’t have a lot of time on week nights to do major computer maintenance and this was looking to be very major maintenance. The host had restored some of the site but some of the directories were missing and some of the files and directories they restored were 7 months old. I pondered taking the site down temporarily so I could fully restore it without other users adding to the problem or getting frustrated trying to. That option was also depressing. Thankfully, the host was able to recover some of the website from the affected hardware and I only had to do a few minor tweaks to complete the restoration. I have fairly current backups of almost everything I do but that would have still been a lot of work and I probably couldn’t complete it in one night. Our host has offered a service credit for the inconvenience.

Driving was no fun yesterday. As I was backing out of a parking lot yesterday, I backed into a little old lady who was also backing up. I felt the impact. I pulled forward and got out. No damage to my truck. I looked at her car. Also no damage. I made sure no one was hurt and we went about our business. She says she honked but I didn’t hear it. Her car was lower than my tailgate and I couldn’t see her. That probably accounts for the no damage as well.
Later, I was caught in a pretty dramatic thunderstorm on my way home. Lightning was all around me and the rain was pretty heavy. That would have been enough but I also encountered and was surrounded by tractor trailers adding the spray from their wheels to the rain on my windshield.

This image from Pitcherlady reminds me of Sin City, the movie we just saw recently. In that movie, a handful of things were in brilliant color while everything else was various shades of gray. Very surreal. I love it. If you're a fan of hard-boiled film noir, that film is a must see.
Fi has an eye for great images, too. This beach in New Zealand looks pretty nice. I can’t imagine any beach in America that gorgeous would be that deserted.
Ali does sunsets. Love sunset pictures.
Fred ponders the changing seasons. The lonely road in the country is universal. All small towns, Bush included, has scenes very similar to the one he captured so eloquently.
